On Saturday the 13th of April 2013, Waverley Communicators has the honour of hosting the Area 30 International Speech Contest and the Area 30 Evaluation Speech Contest at Old St. Paul’s Church Hall, Jeffrey Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DH.  Both contests will have up to 7 contestants; each contestant will represent one of the seven chartered clubs from across the central belt of Scotland (Southside Speakers, Glasgow Toastmasters, Linlithgow Speakers, Falkirk Orators, Haymarket Toastmasters, Capital Communicators and Waverley Communicators).

The International Speech contestants will each deliver a substantially original speech, prepared in advance and of approximately 5-7 minutes in duration.

The Evaluation Speech contestants will each construct and deliver an evaluation speech of approximately 2 to 3 minutes having witnessed a ‘test’ speaker shortly beforehand.

All the contestants are extremely deserving of our support and encouragement.  The contestants have participated in, and in most cases have won, their respective club contests.  Speeches of a high standard can therefore be expected, but it is the participation that is the most important thing in Toastmasters.  This includes the audience participation.  We can all learn a great deal by listening to and watching all the speakers.

All the proceedings will be explained by a Contest Chair.  The winners of the Area 30 contests will represent us in the Division E contest in York, with the potential to go forward to Torquay for the District Contest and then all the way to Cincinnati, Southwest Ohio, USA for the International Speech contest final.

You are cordially invited to attend for FREE – if you are interested in coming along please contact StephenDix@blueyonder.co.uk  Plan to arrive at 12.00 for a prompt 12.30 start (the planned finish time is no later than 17.00).  Refreshments will be provided.  Contests are great occasions.  Come along and see, hear and learn for yourself.
