The race is on for the chance to become the first member of Falkirk Orators to achieve their Competent Communicator award for completing ten prepared speeches.

Colin McGregor is now just one away from this after delivering his 9th speech entitled ‘Perfection’ which challenged the idea that you have to be perfect all the time at everything.  But other members are catching up fast and could pip him at the post.

Lorna Richardson explained how she and her daughter have a shared secret.  They have both had nightmares from watching characters in films. In Lorna’s case it was glimpse at horror legend Freddy Kruger.  But recently it is the ‘scary’ Nanny McPhee who has caused tears in the Richardson household!    Lorna’s natural storytelling skills really showed in this speech which gave her vocal range and variety a chance to shine.

Toastmaster Sheila Fraser presided over the AGM which saw the following officials appointed or re-appointed for the 2012/13 Toastmaster year: President – Colin McGregor, Vice President (VP) of Education – Lee Stevenson, Treasurer – Andy Price, VP of PR – Laura Wallace, Secretary – Lorna Richardson, Sergeant at Arms and Past President – John Smith.

The next meeting is on Wednesday June, 13 at 7pm at the Falkirk and District Association for Mental Health offices, the Victoria Centre, 173 Victoria Road, Falkirk FK2 7AU.
